Attending mass in Santiago de Compostela Cathedral is a very special part of any pilgrimage to the city of Saint James.
The Cathedral hosts several services each day, as well as the Pilgrims’ Office Chapel and other beautiful temples in the old town such as the nearby San Francisco Church.

MASS IN ENGLISH
Holy Mass in English language is celebrated every day at 10:30 am at the Chapel of the Pilgrim’s Reception Office.
MASSES FOR GROUPS
Masses for groups can be requested from the Cathedral misasprivadas@catedraldesantiago.es and take place at the Chapel of the Pilgrim’s Reception Office.
CONFESSION
Confession takes place in different languages at the Soledad Chapel from 10am to 12am and Nuestra Señora del Pilar Chapel from 7pm to 8:30pm.
REQUESTING MASS
The Chapter of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela also offers the possibility of celebrating a Mass in the Basilica of the Apostle Saint James.
A formal request needs to be sent by email to secretario@catedraldesantiago.es specifying the reason for requesting the Mass and making a donation of 10€, or the customary amount given in each country.
BOTAFUMEIRO
The spectacular Botafumeiro thurible at Santiago Cathedral operates on specific dates and solemnities, but also when it has been booked by groups and sometimes during Pilgrims Mass, but not every day.
These are the dates when the Botafumeiro operates:
The Epiphany: 6 January
Resurrection Sunday
The Apparition of the Apostle-Clavijo: 23 May
Pentecost
The Martyrdom of Saint James: 25 July
The Assumption of Mary: 15 August
All Saints: 1 November
Christ the King
The Immaculate Conception: 8 December
Christmas: 25 December
Transfer of the remains of the Apostle: 30 December
The Botafumeiro can also operate for pilgrimages that have requested it from the Cathedral. To request the Botafumeiro you must contact the Cathedral by email to: botafumeiro@catedraldesantiago.es.
MASS ON THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO
Mass is celebrated in many churches and chapels in parishes along the different Camino de Santiago routes. Your hotel or local tourist office is the best place to check times for local masses. Mass times may vary between summer and winter months.
