In Montecassino, the group will visit its Benedictine monastery, located at the top of a hill, and one of the largest monasteries in Italy.
In the Ulysse Riviera, the group will explore picturesque Gaeta, a charming seaside town that stretches into the sea. Here they will visit the historic area, The Borgo, before travelling to the Holy Trinity Sanctuary, situated at the Split Mountain. Founded by Benedictine monks, the sanctuary has been a sacred place for prayer and reflection. The group will admire breathtaking views of the sea as well as explore the Crucifix Chapel, the Sanctuary Church, and the Turk’s Cave.
Continue to the Santissima Annunziata Monumental Complex and the Golden Chapel. One of Gaeta’s most precious jewels, the Golden Chapel, is a Renaissance masterpiece covered in pure gold. Here, Pope Pius IX wrote, while in exile, the Immaculate Conception Dogma.
The group will also explore the coastal town of Sperlonga, best known for the ancient Roman sea grotto; the town of Fondi, with San Leon Magno Monastero; and the church of Fossanova Abbey.
The last stop is San Giovanni Rotondo, the town in the South of Italy where Saint Pio spent most of his life. The group will visit the relics of Saint Pio and the places that played an important part in his life and work, including his birthplace in Pietrelcina.
