Le Marche, Umbria and Tuscany are the trio of Italy that is known for its outstanding Renaissance art, history, and is perfect for group pilgrimages.
Begin the journey in the capital city of Italy, Rome, widely known as the ‘Eternal City’. The group will then make their way to the hill medieval town of Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis. At the bottom of the hill sits The Basilica of Saint Mary of The Angels. In there, lies the Porziuncola a tiny chapel where pilgrims will attend mass.
Continue to Loreto and visit the Basilica of The Holy House a major pilgrimage site where it is believed to be the home and birthplace of the Virgin Mary. The group will travel to Osimo and Tolentino to attend mass in the Basilica of San Giuseppe da Copertino, a 20th-century parochial church dedicated to St Joseph of Cupertino that houses the relics of the Saint.
In Città di Castello the pilgrims will visit the Cathedral of Saint Florido and Saint Amanzio a Roman Catholic Cathedral. Partake in a guided walking tour and enjoy lunch in the Renaissance City. The group will make their way to Arezzo and visit two pilgrimage sites; Basilica di San Francesco the home of Piero della Francesca’s frescoes and the Basilica di San Domenico where Cimabue’s artwork of the “Crucifix” remains. Pilgrims can then enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the Medicean Fortress.
Travel back to Assisi to enjoy a day in the city and explore various churches such as St. Francis Basilica, St. Clare Basilica and Carlo Acutis Church. From Assisi, visit the Orvieto Cathedral also recognised as the “Golden Lily” of cathedrals because of its golden mosaics that illuminate a warm light. To end the trip, pilgrims have the option to participate a wine and food tasting to experience the local cuisine.
