In Montecassino, the group will visit its Benedictine monastery, located at the top of a hill, and one of the largest monasteries in Italy.
In the Ulysse Riviera, the group will explore picturesque Gaeta, a charming seaside town that stretches into the sea. Here they will visit the historic area, The Borgo, before travelling to the Holy Trinity Sanctuary, situated at the Split Mountain. Founded by Benedictine monks, the sanctuary has been a sacred place for prayer and reflection. The group will admire breathtaking views of the sea as well as explore the Crucifix Chapel, the Sanctuary Church, and the Turk’s Cave.
Continue to the Santissima Annunziata Monumental Complex and the Golden Chapel. One of Gaeta’s most precious jewels, the Golden Chapel, is a Renaissance masterpiece covered in pure gold. Here, Pope Pius IX wrote, while in exile, the Immaculate Conception Dogma. The group will also explore the coastal town of Sperlonga, best known for the ancient Roman sea grotto; the town of Fondi, with San Leon Magno Monastero; and the church of Fossanova Abbey.
In Rome, the group will visit Rome’s most important basilicas and religious sites, such as the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, and enjoy the scenic and peaceful Aventino Hill walking tour, featuring stunning panoramic views and ancient churches of Rome. Other beautiful highlights while in Rome will be Ponte Sisto, a bridge in Rome’s historic centre, and Campo de’ Fiori square south of Piazza Navona.
