In Rome, the group will explore Rome’s most important basilicas and religious sites and enjoy this magnificent city, home of extraordinary heritage and iconic monuments. The group will also admire the beautiful St Francis statue, located in front of the church of St John Lateran; as well as visiting the Church of St. Francesco a Ripa Grande, built in 1231 by the Franciscans, and dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi.

In Assisi, the group will follow in the footsteps of Saint Francis and Saint Claire, visiting Assisi’s beautiful temples and shrines, including the places where Saint Francis was inspired to create the Franciscan Order with its message of love and peace.

The group will enjoy an excursion to Gubbio, a beautiful medieval town located in the Umbria region in Italy. Here, they will visit the Wolf Tomb and see the preserved stone that once covered the tomb of the legendary wolf tamed by St. Francis.

Other highlights of this pilgrimage include: an excursion to Rivorto, where St Francis stayed here before the Porziuncola; as well as an excursion to Perugia, capital of the Umbria region, known for its defensive walls around the historic center.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrival Rome

  • Arrival in Rome
  • Lunch
  • Visit St. John in Lateran
  • The Basilica and the Bishop Palace (optional).
  • Group Picture by St. Francesco Statue.
  • Hotel, dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: Rome – Journey to Assisi

  • Rome: Church of St. Francesco a Ripa visit of the Cell and Mass.
  • Travel to Assisi.
  • Late lunch.
  • Lower Assisi  with St.Mary of the Angels.
  • Porziuncola visit with English Friar.
  • Check in the hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: Assisi

  • Upper Assisi with early mass and tour at the Tomb of St.Francesco in the Basilica
  • Walking to St. Margherita Church for the best panoramic views
  • Strolling and lunch Antics Volta
  • Piazza del Vescovado
  • Tomb of St.Carlo Acutis
  • St. Francis House
  • Cathedral of San Rufino
  • St. Claire Basilica
  • Long way souvenirs
  • Dinner and overnight at the hotel

DAY 4: Gubbio

  • Excursion to Gubbio
  • St.Peter Abbey
  • The Wolf Tomb
  • Church of Saint Mary ‘della Vittorina’
  • Lunch
  • Back to Assisi
  • Hotel and overnight

DAY 5: Rivotorto – Foligno

  • Excursion to Rivotorto (Francesco stayed here before the Porziuncola)
  • Transfer to Foligno (here St Francis sold the fabrics to get the money x St.Damien and wrote il Cantico dei Cantici)
  • Mass in the Church of St.Francis with a visit to St.Angela body.
  • Spello was the first community around Assisi to follow.
  • Lunch.
  • Back to Assisi for dinner and overnight.

DAY 6: Todi

  • Excursion to Todi
  • Chiesa di St. Fortunato and Monastero di St.Francesco. One the originals places in Umbria were the Franciscan settled down.
  • Lunch
  • Deruta Chiesa di St.Francesco are the Bell donated by the Order in Assisi was used for he’s canonization. The group will have mass here.
  • Back to Assisi – Hotel dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: Perugia and Spoleto

  • Excursion to Perugia & Spoleto.
  • Francesco was prisoner here in the Captain Palace, the place it’s still there and visitable with a local tour guide. Most of the original sites are becoming city spaces.
  • Lunch
  • Spoleto: St.Sabino al Piano is the Church were Francesco on his way to the Crusade got sick and after a dream change his mind and got the conversion that lead all the rest.
  • Back to Assisi for dinner and overnight

DAY 8: Depart from Rome
