In Rome, the group will explore Rome’s most important basilicas and religious sites and enjoy this magnificent city, home of extraordinary heritage and iconic monuments. The group will also admire the beautiful St Francis statue, located in front of the church of St John Lateran; as well as visiting the Church of St. Francesco a Ripa Grande, built in 1231 by the Franciscans, and dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi.
In Assisi, the group will follow in the footsteps of Saint Francis and Saint Claire, visiting Assisi’s beautiful temples and shrines, including the places where Saint Francis was inspired to create the Franciscan Order with its message of love and peace.
The group will enjoy an excursion to Gubbio, a beautiful medieval town located in the Umbria region in Italy. Here, they will visit the Wolf Tomb and see the preserved stone that once covered the tomb of the legendary wolf tamed by St. Francis.
Other highlights of this pilgrimage include: an excursion to Rivorto, where St Francis stayed here before the Porziuncola; as well as an excursion to Perugia, capital of the Umbria region, known for its defensive walls around the historic center.
